UniProtKB description: Peptide chain release-like factor that acts on 70S ribosomes with specific damage to their decoding center (cleavage of 16S rRNA between adenine-1493 and guanosine-1494, E.coli 16S rRNA numbering) (PubMed:35858322). Probably acts as a peptidyl-tRNA hydrolase, allowing release of the nascent chain and dissociation of the 30S and 50S subunits (Probable) (PubMed:35858322). Can release mRNA as short as 19 nucleotides (nt, mRNA-19, which has a single amino acid in the P-site and only a single nt in the A-site) from the ribosome (PubMed:35858322). This specific cleavage is inflicted by CdiA (ECL_04451) or by colicin E3-type (ColE3) proteins (PubMed:35858322). In vivo the PrfH-RtcB2 pair restores growth in the presence of ribotoxins that specifically create this damage (PubMed:35858322).
